Ports in Africa have faced intermittent disruptions due to infrastructure issues and inclement weather conditions. The Port of Durban, South Africa, has seen disruptions from protests and employee engagement sessions on June 15 and June 19, and then saw power outages occur on June 23, and IT system issues occur on June 30.
The Port of Abidjan, Ivory Coast, has seen persistent congestion that has been exacerbated by intermittent power outages. Port workers at the Port of Lome, Togo, launched a three-day strike from June 25-27 to demand a new collective labor agreement.
In Asia & Oceania, average wait times remain stable. Some fog-related closures continue to impact operations at ports in China. The Port of Hong Kong faced disruptions on June 12, 15, and 18, due to flight demonstrations in the region.
The United States and Iran have continued negotiations over a peace deal. Despite the official reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, scattered military strikes from both sides and uncertainty over the progress of negotiations have kept carriers from a full resumption of traffic. On June 28, Iranian missiles struck U.S. military vessels at the Port of Salman, Bahrain. Vessel volumes remain significantly lower than pre-war levels.
In Europe, labor issues have led to operational disruptions at the Port of Genoa, Italy. Unions have called for strike action from July 8-18 at the PSA Genova Pra Terminal. The Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands, has seen several disruptions. High yard density led to a temporary halt in the acceptance of empty containers on June 29, while maintenance disrupted operations on July 1, 6, and 7. Extreme heat conditions led to a suspension of activities at the ECT Delta Terminal and the Euromax Terminal on June 26.
In the Americas, ports in South America faced more disruptions than their North American counterparts. The ports of Itajaí and Santos, Brazil, faced intermittent closures due to fog from July 1-2. The ports of Puerto Cabello and La Guaira, Venezuela, are both facing significant operational disruptions as a result of the twin high-magnitude earthquakes that struck the country on June 24. Lastly, the Port of La Guaira is currently being used as a humanitarian logistics hub with no commercial traffic authorized. As a result, Puerto Cabello is seeing an uptick in volume as vessels divert.

Average wait times were recorded at 7.4 days at Port Elizabeth (Coega/Gqeberha), South Africa, according to Kuehne + Nagel. The port is facing tidal restrictions and vessel omissions due to inclement weather conditions that are impacting productivity.
