Port Congestion Report: 12 June 2026

In Africa, port operations experienced some stability following the conclusion of several protests and strikes that had previously disrupted operations. Weather continues to be a leading disruptor for ports in the area. On May 29, Transnet was forced to suspend operations at the Port of Durban, South Africa, due to high winds.

Port operations in Asia & Oceania remain largely stable, although fog-related closures continue to cause intermittent disruptions along the coast of China. These disruptions have led to temporary closures at ports like Qingdao and Ningbo

Maritime operations in the Middle East continue to be severely impacted by the ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran. No negotiations for a peace deal to end the war are currently taking place after Iran broke off talks on June 1. On June 8, the U.S. indicated that it would maintain its blockade of Iranian ports.

Operational disruptions were also reported at ports in India, including Chennai and Nhava Sheva, due to a lack of trailer availability amid the seasonal migration of trailer drivers to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The election-related leave has decreased trailer availability by 40-50%.

In Europe, a 24-hour strike by marine pilots at the Port of Antwerp, Belgium, occurred on June 5, delaying the berthing of at least 37 vessels. Rail delays in Germany have severely impacted cargo operations at the ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven, leading to import and export delays.

In the Americas, a number of disruptions affected ports, including a power outage at the Port of Veracruz, Mexico, that affected 800 trailers at the port. Logistics delays were also reported at the Port of Montevideo, Uruguay, due to a truck drivers’ strike on May 28. Heavy goods transport and port operations were affected.

A systems outage also affected the operations of APM Terminals at the Port of Mobile, United States, on May 29.
