COVID-19 Weekly Update, June 15th 2021

Everstream Analytics monitors and produces a weekly summary of supply chain impacts due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The update is provided free-of-charge to the industry.  

  • The nationwide lockdown in Malaysia will remain in place until June 28. Electronics, semiconductor and automotive manufacturers, including Seiko Epson Corporation, Taiyo Yuden, Infineon Technologies, have announced production halts since the lockdown began.
  • Logistics and manufacturing in Guangdong Province have been facing growing challenges due to shipment delays and limited access to containers, airports, and terminals amid COVID-19 restrictions.
  • In addition to existing measures, shipping operators have introduced congestion surcharges amid severe congestion at the Port of Yantian.
  • COVID-19 protocols in Laos will end on June 19, although certain measures will remain in effect until further notice. International freight and cargo transportation is still required to comply with health and safety measures.
  • Authorities in Bangladesh extended the border closure with India until June 30 due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19.
  • Restrictions will remain in place across Bahrain until June 25. Authorities first announced closures of non-essential businesses on May 27.
  • Zimbabwe reimposed restrictions and nationwide curfews to curb a spike in COVID-19 cases across the country.
  • A shortage of viral vectors, an ingredient used in gene therapies, gene-modified cell therapies and some COVID-19 vaccines, could affect around 14 therapies and vaccines that use a viral vector marketed in the EU, Japan, the UK and the US.
