Global Syringe Shortage Jeopardizes Mass Vaccination Campaigns

As much of the world rushes to attain and distribute COVID-19 vaccinations, access has been stymied by a severe worldwide syringe shortage. With an estimated need of 8-10 billion syringes for the COVID-19 vaccine alone, the shortage is likely to persist in the coming months as production of polypropylene (PP), the main raw material used in the making of disposable plastic syringes, was disrupted following the passage of a Texas winter storm in February 2021.

As a result, production capacity issues may be felt for some time as a variety of industry disruptions continue to plague syringe makers.

This Everstream Analytics report analyzes the causes and impacts of a global syringe shortage as the need for billions of syringes to administer the Covid-19 vaccine meets disruptions to critical inputs for the manufacture of syringes. Download the report today!
