  • Ground traffic and rail through Xi’an has been suspended amidst a lockdown that has shut down production sites in the city. Authorities launched mandatory testing of the city’s 13 million residents amidst 175 new cases logged on December 27.
  • Chinese authorities in Yan’an issued a lockdown order that prevents residents from leaving home for non-essential business. Meanwhile, officials in Ningbo lifted lockdown orders on December 20 that sealed nearly 500,000 residents in their homes and closed petrochemical enterprises and manufacturers in Zhenhai.
  • Border crossings at Dongxing Port facilities that connect China and Vietnam were shut down on December 21 to control the local spread of disease. The Laotian border was also impacted at Boten-Mohan as Chinese customs officials decreased the volume of cars being processed, ensuring that delays will persist.
  • Omicron outbreaks cause airlines to cancel around 2,600 flights on December 28, 1,000 of which were scheduled for U.S. destinations. In parallel, U.S. regulators are mulling vaccine mandates for air travel as case numbers increase moving into the winter travel season.
  • European countries such as France, Italy, Ireland, Spain, and other states implement capacity restrictions, new face mask rules, social distancing in public, and additional curfews ahead of expected surge in cases after holiday season.
  • South Korean Health authorities have imposed a nightly curfew for some non-essential businesses from 21:00 each night until January 2 amid rapid rises in the number of Omicron patients. New restrictions also limit the number of people in a group gathering to four and set restrictions on non-vaccinated persons.
